So, I know that in June sales tax was applied to retailers that have affiliates based in New York. It is absurd to begin with, but some websites did find workarounds. Some such as overstock simply dropped their NY affiliates, but being the badass company that they are Newegg simply stopped collecting it. Why are companies such as Amazon not following suit? If they failed to pay the tax, then how would they collect it? The state of New York authorities have no jurisdiction outside of the state, so really what is stopping other retailers from doing so?

What i am guessing is Amazon will simply add the tax to their shipping, or make the retailers pay the tax for you. This would, in turn, make you (technically the retailer, not you) pay for the tax, yet not be in trouble with NY Government officials.
