Does anybody know where my family and I can list things we would be interested in receiving that is not affiliated with a store? For instance, Amazon has a gigantic selection of stuff, but you can only register for stuff they sell. What if one of the things you’d like is a finger-painting by your 6 year old niece?

  1. The best thing I can think of is to set up a wedding website. There are tons of free places that will let you do it and you have a url like http://www.janieandjohn.com. You can make a list on there of your "registry" and it would be easy to update when you got things. You can put whatever you want on there since you are just typing it in. I know whenever I have to buy a wedding gift I go to the registry and find out what the want (like a "Magic Bullet") and buy it whever I can find it cheapest.

  2. The upside of the registry is that you don’t get 12 of the same items. But it does limit you to a store’s inventory. If you want things like you mentioned just let your family members know. But that implies that they don’t have any options in your gift selection and some folks won’t like that.

  3. This would help if you want items from a variety of websites or stores…as far as your niece’s painting goes…I don’t think they could help.

  4. People don’t owe you a gift. Accept what is given to you and be thankful.

  5. There are websites that will let you register for honeymoon things…so for example, you could put that you’d like a couple’s massage and estimate that it’ll cost 180 bucks, so you put that…then someone goes online and basically pays you (the company which will in turn pay you) the money to do it. You can do the same sort of the thing with finger painting. I had a friend who made a website on weddingchannel.com or theknot.com and on their homepage they created a registry like that…it was really sweet.

  6. Hey, you’re sweet. One thing you two could do is set up a wedding website, then have your own quirky and special registry on the site. What a nice idea!

  7. Wishlist – you could register and include specific sites if you like. Check it out.
